Spooky Folk From Headless Heroes & Alela Diane

For starters, can we just take a moment to love on this artwork? Weirdly we have been taking a particular interest in pop illustration this week (more on that story later) and this rather took our breath away - being sad, simple and beautiful all at the same time. Well done, Irana Douer, what done it.

Anyhoo, despite our aversion for all thing beardy, we are willing today to let you in on the fact that we are actually rather keen on spooky folk. Give us a murder ballad, an evil strum from the likes of Gravenhurst, a wibbly electric tinge from folktronica (hateful term) types Tunng, and we revel in the darkness.

In that spirit, may we present this. It is called The North Wind Blew South, and is from the forthcoming marvellously-monikered Headless Heroes album, which features the vocal stylings of Alela Diane, is called The Silence Of Love and is out on November 17th. The videothing is a bit rubs, featuring as it does a ferry and no scariness at all, but perhaps if you imagine some sort of terrifying flock of evil birds following the boat it will up the fright factor somewhat. You know, like that footballing French once said about seagulls following trawlers. We rather liked him and his upturned collar, which if you think about it was all rather Dracularic.

Here it is:

Mmn, the dark side. Resist it this week we cannot, readers.

Headless Heroes on the internets.
