Why country stars make bad spokespeople
The scramble for the big chair at the White House and popular celebrity parlour game Who Likes Obama The Most provides yet another story allied to a musical personage. So today we have Toby Keith, country star and apparent advocate of lynching, planting his horrible, pointy size 12 cowboy boots in it. Says Keith, 'he talks, acts and carries himself as a Caucasian.'
We wonder if Barack might think about setting up some sort of vetting register for his musical supporters, what with everyone from Mark Ronson to Ludacris trying to outdo each other with their Obama-love. And most of them getting it a bit wrong.
Anyhoo. Here's 'Conservative Democrat' (make your mind up) Toby Keith on the radio, making a right mess of things. He's also been on Daily Show spin-off the Stephen Colbert Show, merrily singing about lynching whilst the audience clapped along. It is all oddly and horribly reminiscent of that bit in the Borat film.
Pop'n'politics allegiances are never so interesting in this country.
